How to Maintain Home Siding in the Rio Grande Valley
Siding does two jobs: it keeps weather out of the wall and it defines how the house looks. In the Valley, the first job is the one that quietly fails.
What to look for twice a year
- Gaps or separation at butt joints and around windows and doors
- Cracked, loose, or bowed panels, often after high wind
- Soft spots when you press on the panel or the trim below it
- Staining or streaking below joints, which can mean water is getting in
- Failed caulk where siding meets trim, brick, or stucco
Cleaning without causing damage
Siding should be soft washed, not blasted. High pressure can force water behind panels and cause exactly the damage you were trying to prevent.
Repair or replace
Isolated damage on an otherwise sound wall is usually a repair. Widespread failure, or damage that has reached the sheathing behind the siding, points toward replacing that elevation. Photos help our team tell the difference before we come out.
